Autumn Family Session in the Park

This beautiful family contacted me to book a session just as I landed on a trip to Montana. We schedule the session in mid-November and we got chilly temperatures, as the sun set. The payoff, as planned, was gorgeous light on the city’s last beautiful fall leaves as we wrapped up. The kids were troopers as it got colder, but the daughter hung in there, and even perked up a bit with the promise of a warm bath and cold ice cream once they got home. =) Relaxed and warm family. Thank you very much for trusting me with your photos and I hope your photo gifts were received very well and bring joy for many years to come!

Snow Day Mini Session with a Neighbor

This beautiful young lady’s mother and I have had a casual, running conversation about doing a session of her for a number of months now. Between school, spelling bee competitions, roller skating around the East Coast, and a busy DC life, in general, on her end, and a packed fall and winter schedule on mine, we just hadn’t pulled it off. Then we got a beautiful snow day yesterday and I suggested we do it. We shot these in my yard, as I took a break from clearing snow from the sidewalk and as my kids sledded down the bank in front of my house! But you’d never know it, right? I have known this young lady for almost 10 years, and it was my pleasure to take these, her first professional photos. I sincerely hope her family enjoys them for many years to come!

I am excited to announce that Roots and Twigs will spend Saturday, December 6th with Santa Claus’ local stand-in, Takoma Park Mayor Bruce Williams, and all of you who come out to support the event! This is a drop-in event, running from 2-5pm, at the NatureLab, 7003 Carroll Avenue, Takoma Park, MD. Please stop by for holiday fun and photos by yours truly. Photo pricing: $20 for a 5×7 print or $30 for a high resolution JPG, plus 6% sales tax. Event is a fundraiser for the Old Takoma Business Association, Your Main Street Takoma.

As always, my family and I walked across the line into Maryland this morning to enjoy the delightful and slightly offbeat 125th annual Takoma Park Fourth of July Parade! We sat with many of our wonderful neighbors, caught up, and soaked in the perfect weather. For my part, I also got to give – not one, not two – but THREE new lenses their first test at the parade. So, enjoy the photos for what they are – off-duty, friends and family time, while experimenting with new gear. And HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

You may have seen some of these images as proofs before, but the clients only recently selected images for final edits, which are now complete. The timing for this cherry blossom festival engagement session at the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC could not have been better. These guys are self-proclaimed goofballs and there was quite a bit of horsing around throughout the session, as you will see below. Thanks for such a great time, A and D!!! This family has been wonderful to work with, and to me. They followed up on a recommendation on an online message board and booked their first session soon after I opened shop. I have since done a session for some of their family friends, and then, almost 6 months after their first session with me, they welcomed me back to help mark their daughter’s second birthday, which was just around the corner. It was *so fun* to see their toddler again. What a difference 6 months has made! Six months ago, I don’t recall her speaking to me or having any real interest in engaging me during our urban session. This time, however, she was ON. She was very verbal and playful. Spunky, like my own daughter who is just a few months older. This family is lovely inside and out, and they are some of the very best clients I have worked with. Thank you, thank you, guys!!!

Lots of things have changed since this bride last wore her beautiful wedding gown, 7 years ago. She’s now the mother to two energetic little boys, for instance! Before donating her dress to a charity, she wanted to don it one more time for a quick little session at a neighborhood playground. Fifteen minutes. That’s what we spent, after school one day, and then we released the boys for free play. Enjoy!

With spring session work, edits, opening my Etsy shop, a big family birthday, and the school year winding down, I almost forgot to post some sessions. I did post sneak peeks from this one a while back, but here are final edits. We did this session in the residential area around Georgetown. This family was lovely and fun, and little man was full of great toddler boy energy.
