The last few months have been a bit of a blur and a bit extraordinary, as our family moves for a second time in less than a year. If you know anyone needing to buy or rent a wonderful (5 br, 3.5 bath, 3800 sf) bungalow in Fort Collins, Colorado, please holla! =) And don’t worry! We didn’t move far – in fact, less than a mile away. Still loving life in FoCo!

With all the crazy that comes with moving, as well as a pretty cold winter, sessions have been slow, as is typical in winter anyway. That has given me a chance to revisit past work and find new gems. I have also discovered a wonderful and supportive photography community out there and gotten involved, making new friends and connections. And finally, in my ongoing effort to re-establish my business across the country, I have been reaching out and submitting to various photo competitions. I have met most of this family at least a time or two during the past decade, and you may recognize the toddler girl and her parents from an earlier maternity session I shot in Denver. They were both on the day after Thanksgiving 2014, one with 10 family members, and the other with 11, and both with family members stretching from the East to the West Coasts. Autumn Family Session in the Park

This beautiful family contacted me to book a session just as I landed on a trip to Montana. We schedule the session in mid-November and we got chilly temperatures, as the sun set. The payoff, as planned, was gorgeous light on the city’s last beautiful fall leaves as we wrapped up. The kids were troopers as it got colder, but the daughter hung in there, and even perked up a bit with the promise of a warm bath and cold ice cream once they got home. =) Relaxed and warm family. Thank you very much for trusting me with your photos and I hope your photo gifts were received very well and bring joy for many years to come!

For those who have not been following along on Facebook, you might think I have taken some time off. Quite the contrary! I just can’t keep up with blog posts for the all the sessions I have been working on this fall. We got rained out as soon as we arrived for our first session attempt, but the weather cooperated nicely the next morning. The family wanted some shots of everybody, along with some extra focus for their 7-month old son’s “6-month” photos. The kids were lots of fun and the parents were, too. I was happy that the kids broke in two of the vintage luggage pieces I have been collecting for props. Thanks, guys, and I hope to see you again next year, if not sooner!

2014.07.04 Takoma Park Independence Day Parade!

It’s one of my favorite days and events of the year! As always, my family and I walked across the line into Maryland this morning to enjoy the delightful and slightly offbeat 125th annual Takoma Park Fourth of July Parade! We sat with many of our wonderful neighbors, caught up, and soaked in the perfect weather. For my part, I also got to give – not one, not two – but THREE new lenses their first test at the parade. So, enjoy the photos for what they are – off-duty, friends and family time, while experimenting with new gear. And HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!

This family has been wonderful to work with, and to me. They followed up on a recommendation on an online message board and booked their first session soon after I opened shop. I have since done a session for some of their family friends, and then, almost 6 months after their first session with me, they welcomed me back to help mark their daughter’s second birthday, which was just around the corner. It was *so fun* to see their toddler again. What a difference 6 months has made! Six months ago, I don’t recall her speaking to me or having any real interest in engaging me during our urban session. This time, however, she was ON. She was very verbal and playful. Spunky, like my own daughter who is just a few months older. This family is lovely inside and out, and they are some of the very best clients I have worked with. Thank you, thank you, guys!!!

Lots of things have changed since this bride last wore her beautiful wedding gown, 7 years ago. She’s now the mother to two energetic little boys, for instance! Before donating her dress to a charity, she wanted to don it one more time for a quick little session at a neighborhood playground. Fifteen minutes. That’s what we spent, after school one day, and then we released the boys for free play. Enjoy!

I have been pretty swamped lately, between session edits, quoting custom and event photography jobs, actual photography, building my Etsy shop for Fine Art Prints, and end of the school year obligations. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, but it’s still a week away!

There are more photos I would love to share from this session, which was dominated by fabulous, little boy energy, but it will have to wait until things slow down. Until then, enjoy these, which are mostly client selections, along with a few I particularly love.
