Could they be any more adorable?! I love Mom’s red hair and boots, and the balance of their wardrobe choices – absolutely perfect for the autumn colors and light, while hitting all the right notes for a casual outdoor session! I am posting only the client’s selections here for now, but there are more personal favorites I will add if I get time. This family was generous and warm. Loved working with you!
I shot my first two extended family sessions ever on the same day. They were both on the day after Thanksgiving 2014, one with 10 family members, and the other with 11, and both with family members stretching from the East to the West Coasts. Many thanks to R for setting this session up months in advance, and to all for a great session!

It was my honor to photograph this relaxed and friendly, extended family the day after Thanksgiving. The family is spread from California to Maryland, so it was a special time for them to get together. We scheduled on very short notice and kept the session low impact by shooting in the family’s back yard (OK, and their neighbor’s yard, too!).
This beautiful young lady’s mother and I have had a casual, running conversation about doing a session of her for a number of months now. Between school, spelling bee competitions, roller skating around the East Coast, and a busy DC life, in general, on her end, and a packed fall and winter schedule on mine, we just hadn’t pulled it off. Then we got a beautiful snow day yesterday and I suggested we do it. We shot these in my yard, as I took a break from clearing snow from the sidewalk and as my kids sledded down the bank in front of my house! But you’d never know it, right? I have known this young lady for almost 10 years, and it was my pleasure to take these, her first professional photos. I sincerely hope her family enjoys them for many years to come!
Life has been absolutely overflowing with travel, big life changes, and work the past several months. I am trying to catch up in many areas, one of which is my blog! I have posted a few photos from a number of my fall sessions, but I haven’t created my customary posts. So here’s a new one for you…
I had the pleasure of working with this beautiful family at local parks, where the kids’ big personalities took center stage. I seriously couldn’t get enough of them. Thank you for your kind feedback and the great fun working with you, D Family!
(Note: a couple of these are sized smaller than others and a couple are unedited proofs… I may try to update them when I get caught up more!)

We got rained out as soon as we arrived for our first session attempt, but the weather cooperated nicely the next morning. The family wanted some shots of everybody, along with some extra focus for their 7-month old son’s “6-month” photos. The kids were lots of fun and the parents were, too. I was happy that the kids broke in two of the vintage luggage pieces I have been collecting for props. Thanks, guys, and I hope to see you again next year, if not sooner!
It’s one of my favorite days and events of the year! As always, my family and I walked across the line into Maryland this morning to enjoy the delightful and slightly offbeat 125th annual Takoma Park Fourth of July Parade! We sat with many of our wonderful neighbors, caught up, and soaked in the perfect weather. For my part, I also got to give – not one, not two – but THREE new lenses their first test at the parade. So, enjoy the photos for what they are – off-duty, friends and family time, while experimenting with new gear. And HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY!
