Family Maternity Session in Denver – Fort Collins, Colorado Photographer

Rebooting my business in Colorado has been one of the bigger challenges we’ve faced related to our recent move, but it’s been made quite a bit sweeter to have the opportunity to work with old friends and neighbors. In this case, these now-parents were our next-door neighbors for six years in Washington, DC! We told them about our first pregnancy while attending their wedding. This Dad was our first and only visitor at the hospital when I gave birth to my first child and his wife rushed over to our home, bearing food, as soon as she returned from an out-of-town trip. They were wonderful neighbors and just as fun and caring to our oldest child as they could possibly be. Alas, just before I became pregnant with my second child, they packed up and moved to Colorado. What were we to do, but follow them!? In truth, it had been a long-term plan of ours, dating back long before we knew them. Still, it is wonderful to remain in touch and to be able to share in this beautiful journey of theirs.

We held the session near the clients’ home, about 90 minutes from me. Thus, the clients did a little reconnaissance work to share the place and sunrise light with me. When they visited, the wildflowers and grass were high and lovely. Just a couple of days later, when we went for the session, the grass had been mowed and was wet, sticky, and the biggest mess I have ever tried to shoot in. The adults were wet to their shins and the child to her knees. We worked hard to fight the mess, and couldn’t try a number of shots we wanted, as they would have gotten terribly dirty. Still, all in all, I think their love and happiness shines through and they have some beautiful memories to look back on for a lifetime.

I will be adding more photos to this gallery in the coming days, but wanted to go ahead and post some now. Guys, many thanks for choosing me to capture this precious time in your lives, and I wish you the very best with birth and the transition to two children!

Extended Family, Thanksgiving Session

It was my honor to photograph this relaxed and friendly, extended family the day after Thanksgiving. The family is spread from California to Maryland, so it was a special time for them to get together. We scheduled on very short notice and kept the session low impact by shooting in the family’s back yard (OK, and their neighbor’s yard, too!).

2014.04.13 Mini Session at the Tidal Basin

These guys were sweet and easy-going. The mother is a fellow photographer and I was honored that she chose me to photograph her family during the National Cherry Blossom Festival this year, and at such an exciting time for them as they neared the arrival of their new baby. I have now seen photos, and their daughter is gorgeous. I am so happy that I was able to be a little part of their journey!

April is heavily booked and personal travel has made things just a bit busier. I’ve uploaded a number of proofs from recent sessions on Facebook, but I’m also posting many here in a quick slideshow until I get more time for final edits and proper posts. Hope you enjoy and please get in touch to schedule your own session!

Catching Up and Recent Snapshots

Happy New Year! I haven’t posted here in a while, so I thought I would offer a quick update about what’s going on with the business recently. One of my December family sessions got rained out, and my other session isn’t ready to post here. I have a family session scheduled for next weekend, and am in early talks with a couple about doing their upcoming wedding! In the meantime, I want to share some quick snapshots of friends, taken on December 29, 2013. They’re good sports and good people, so hopefully they won’t mind too much.

2013.12.01 Family Mini Session

What a great way to welcome December! I really enjoyed working with these new clients, including Kiki, their wonderful family dog of nine years. The family came to me and I walked to the session! We enjoyed exploring various little pockets of the neighborhood, which generated a number of different looks for the session.

Enjoy the photos and remember, as always, click on the photo for a larger view.

30 Minute Mini Sessions coming on SUNDAY, December 1, 2013

Mini Sessions are a great and low-risk way to try out using a specific photographer. They are also a perfect fit for seniors, head shots, and holiday cards.

Location: We’ll meet in Old Town Takoma Park, MD, at or near the Sunday farmers market on Laurel Avenue. From there, we’ll have access to funky and festive storefronts, a beautiful stone church, and more.

Available session start times: 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, and 2:30 (booked!). Contact me for a different session time on the same day, as I may be able to accommodate. Session fee is $75. Please see SESSIONS and PRICING for additional information.

2013.11.09 Family Session; Washington, DC Family Photographer

This beautiful family was a joy to work with! Unfortunately, the older son wasn’t feeling well, and he took a little splash in the creek early on. Still, he was a very good sport and tried to hard to keep his tongue in his mouth and a smile on his face. He was even gorgeous through tears in his big, brown eyes when he had had enough. Little brother was a happy camper, especially every time he got one of his mom’s delicious pumpkin muffins. I can vouch for them. They’d put a smile on anybody’s face! I’m still going through the photos, but here are some of my favorites.
