It is with mixed emotions that I sit down to pen this letter to you. As a mother who left her architecture career to raise her young children through their ongoing formative years, then mustered the courage to pursue a 20+ year bucket list dream of converting her lifelong photography passion into a business, I thank you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reaching out to me, trusting me with your precious family memories, being wonderful to work with, and giving me the rich experience of creating me-time while simultaneously fulfilling my big dream. I believe in the value of photography, from many angles, including preserving fleeting newborn and childhood days; wedding joy; high school seniors off to see the bigger world; and capturing loved ones in photos that one day will be core to memories of those we have lost.
I have very few photos of myself as a young child, and similarly few of my father, who died much too young. I had no photos of my grandfather who passed away three months before I was born until I was well into adulthood, and the first and only one I had for many years was when he was a teenager. Years later, I was elated to receive several from his adulthood, helping to fill in the gaps of a life I never knew, but deeply wanted to know. I encourage you to continue documenting your lives in still photography, ensuring you have physical artifacts – such as prints, canvases, and books – to hold onto – whatever may come of digital files as technology marches on.
To those of you who have helped build my business through word of mouth, including in person and on local listservs: you are GOLDEN. You are the BEST a small business could ever ask for! Ultimately, though, I have something else to share with you. Roots and Twigs Photography is in the process of moving to Fort Collins, Colorado. I remain in DC, with limited session availability, until early March. Please touch base if you would like to squeeze a session in with me before I move!
Upon relocation, in addition to Fort Collins, I will locally serve areas including Denver, Boulder, Louisville, Lafayette, Niwot, Loveland, and Longmont, Colorado; as well as Cheyenne, Wyoming. Destination photography is always of interest, of course. I will also travel to Washington, DC, my home for more than 11 years, for pleasure, as well as to photograph clients, as opportunities arise. The same is true of NC, my home for the balance of my years to date, and where I will continue to visit friends and family. Please let me know if you would like a session, and please stay in touch! Email me, follow me on Facebook, whatever works best for you; I would love to hear from you!
Finally, keep an eye out for new Fine Art Photography from my upcoming, stunning, outdoors-intensive life in the Rocky Mountains and throughout the many fabulous National Parks surrounding them! You can view Fine Art on this blog, on Facebook, and in my Etsy Shop.
All the best to each of you,
